Frequently Asked Questions

What is ToneFinance?

ToneFinance is a platform for investing in crypto sectors. Instead of buying individual tokens, you deposit USDC and receive sector tokens representing a basket of related assets. Think of it like an ETF for crypto.

What’s an alpha?

Alpha means the project is early and experimental. We’re still testing and improving features. Use the alpha to:

  • Learn how ToneFinance works
  • Give us feedback
  • Help us find bugs or improvements

The alpha uses testnet (no real money), so it’s a safe place to experiment.

Is this real money?

No. On the Base Sepolia testnet, you’re using:

  • Test ETH (free from faucets)
  • Test USDC (no real value)
  • Test tokens (no real value)

Nothing costs real money. When ToneFinance launches on mainnet, that will be with real tokens.

Why testnet?

Testnet lets us:

  • Test features safely
  • Get feedback without real financial risk to users
  • Find and fix bugs
  • Improve the experience before mainnet launch

How long does fulfillment take?

Usually 10-20 seconds. Sometimes up to a minute depending on market conditions. You’ll see a status showing when it’s complete.

Why does fulfillment take time?

The off-chain fulfillment engine needs to:

  1. Detect your pending deposit/withdrawal
  2. Acquire the appropriate underlying tokens from the market
  3. Deposit those tokens into the vault
  4. Trigger token minting/burning

This multi-step process ensures every sector token is fully backed by real underlying assets and that you get fair market prices.

Are my sector tokens fully backed?

Yes! Each sector token is backed 1:1 by underlying AI tokens in the vault. The fulfillment engine doesn’t complete your deposit until the underlying tokens are safely in the vault. Only then are your sector tokens minted.

Can I lose my money?

On testnet, no—it’s all test tokens worth nothing. But you should understand:

  • Crypto markets are volatile
  • Token prices can go up or down
  • Your sector tokens reflect these price changes

How is pricing calculated?

ToneFinance uses oracle prices (fair market prices from trusted sources):

  • When you deposit, you get sector tokens based on current prices
  • When you withdraw, you receive tokens based on current prices
  • Everyone pays the same fair price

This prevents anyone from being unfairly advantaged.

What happens on mainnet?

When ToneFinance launches on mainnet:

  • You’ll use real USDC and real tokens
  • Withdrawals will let you choose: underlying tokens OR USDC
  • The experience will be the same, but with real value

Can I withdraw anytime?

Yes! You can withdraw:

  • Any amount (partial or full)
  • Anytime
  • Get the underlying tokens back (testnet) or choose tokens/USDC (mainnet)

Why 10 tokens in the basket?

10 provides:

  • Diversity (lower risk if one token drops)
  • Exposure (benefit from the whole AI sector)
  • Manageability (not too many to track)

Future baskets may have different compositions.

Is there a minimum deposit?

No! There is no minimum deposit during the alpha. You can deposit any amount, even just 10 USDC.

Are there fees?

On alpha:

  • No platform fees
  • Only gas fees (small amounts of ETH) for transactions

What’s NAV?

NAV = Net Asset Value. It’s the total value of all tokens in the vault divided by the number of sector tokens. ToneFinance uses NAV to ensure fair pricing for all deposits and withdrawals.


Troubleshooting

MetaMask won’t connect to the app

Check:

  1. MetaMask is installed and unlocked
  2. You’re on Base Sepolia network (check the top of MetaMask)
  3. Try refreshing the page
  4. Try reconnecting your wallet

If still not working:

  • Click MetaMask icon
  • Click account dropdown
  • Click “Connected sites”
  • Remove the ToneFinance app
  • Reload the page and reconnect

I don’t see Base Sepolia network in MetaMask

Solution:

  1. Go to Base Sepolia setup guide
  2. Follow the manual add instructions
  3. Verify the network is showing in MetaMask

Transaction is pending for a long time

Wait: Sometimes the network is slow. Give it a few minutes.

Check:

  1. Click MetaMask
  2. Click the pending transaction
  3. See the status on the blockchain explorer
  4. If it’s been 5+ minutes and still pending, it may have failed

To try again:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Attempt the transaction again

I don’t see my tokens after deposit

Wait: It can take up to 1-2 minutes for blockchain confirmation.

Check:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Check MetaMask for the sector token (may need to import if not shown)
  3. Look at the fulfillment status in the app

If still missing after 2+ minutes:

  1. Check the blockchain explorer (Basescan)
  2. Search for your wallet address
  3. Look for recent transactions
  4. See if the deposit transaction succeeded

I don’t see my tokens after withdrawal

Wait: Give it 1-2 minutes for blockchain confirmation.

Check:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. You may need to import the tokens to MetaMask to see them
  3. Look for the token addresses in Reference

To import a token:

  1. Click MetaMask “Import tokens”
  2. Paste the token address
  3. Click “Add Custom Token”

Approval transaction failed

This means: MetaMask rejected the transaction.

Common reasons:

  • You clicked “Reject” by mistake
  • You don’t have enough ETH for gas fees
  • The app refreshed mid-transaction

To fix:

  1. Make sure you have 0.1+ ETH for gas
  2. Try again
  3. Make sure MetaMask is still connected

I see “Insufficient balance” error

This means: You don’t have enough:

  • USDC (for deposit), or
  • Sector tokens (for withdrawal), or
  • ETH (for gas fees)

Fix:

  • Get more USDC from the faucet
  • Get more ETH from the faucet
  • Check your wallet balance in MetaMask

The app won’t let me deposit

Check:

  1. You have enough USDC
  2. You have enough ETH for gas (at least 0.01 ETH)
  3. You’ve approved USDC spending
  4. You’re on Base Sepolia network

I approved USDC but can’t deposit

This can happen if:

  • The page refreshed after approval
  • MetaMask needs to reconnect
  • There’s a temporary issue

Fix:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Reconnect MetaMask (click MetaMask → your account)
  3. Try depositing again

I lost my seed phrase

This is serious. Your seed phrase is the only way to recover your wallet.

If you wrote it down:

  • Check where you stored it
  • Keep it extremely safe

If you didn’t write it down:

  • Unfortunately, it’s lost
  • You can create a new wallet and start fresh
  • Make sure to save the new seed phrase

Note: ToneFinance and MetaMask cannot recover lost seed phrases.

Something else isn’t working

Please report it:

  1. Write down what happened
  2. Note the steps you took
  3. Include your error message
  4. Share feedback with the ToneFinance team
